Hurns Law, APC

Alissa Hurns

Alissa (Lisa) Hurns has spent her entire professional career approaching each client and matter with compassion, understanding, diligence, dedication and hard work.   Lisa’s ability to identify and analyze the facts and understanding the law allows her to represent her clients vigorously and effectively.

Throughout her legal career, Lisa has consistently practiced employment law, mainly on the employer side. However, while in law school she also worked at an employee-side law firm.  Her prior 20 years of experience in human resources gives her a unique perspective when assessing potential employment claims, whether for the employee or the employer.  Her prior experience in human resources, where she had her boots on the ground in the corporate world sets her apart from other employment attorneys.  Lisa has sat in the shoes of being an employee and being in management, making tough decisions.

Her passion has led her to expand her practice areas to include estate planning as a means of protecting her clients’ voice as it relates to their healthcare, end of life plans, distribution of assets, and ongoing care for their children and loved ones.  Lisa works together with her clients to ensure their voice is loud and clear even when they are no longer able to speak. She also understands the benefit to relieving the burden from loved ones left to navigate the legal maze during difficult times.

Lisa repeatedly receives high compliments from clients about the ease with which she communicates with clients and her relatability to clients and their circumstances.

Lisa also spends time mentoring young people and law students.  She continues to stay connected to her law school, Chapman University Fowler School of Law, by speaking on panels to prospective law students and working with members of the law school’s black law student association.  Lisa also began teaching at the law school as a part-time adjunct guest lecturer in Spring 2023.

Growing up in Los Angeles and seeing both good and bad, along with her upbringing and encounters with people from all walks of life, continues to drive her passion for helping others.

Lisa has previously worked for nationwide law firms, including most recently a national labor and employment firm. Her experience included handling employment and wage and hour matters, general liability and personal injury, and business litigation matters.
